The best UK Christmas days out – for kids and adults
There are no end of fantastic Christmas events and attractions in the UK during the 2017 festive period. We’ve picked our favourite’s and listed them below..if you think we are missing any crackers (no pun) make sure you let us know!
17th November – January 1st
Get into the Christmas spirit as Winter Wonderland returns to London’s Hyde Park for the 11th year.
This free-to-enter family event includes a host of festive fun and activities, including Winter Wonderland ice skating, big top shows, an observation wheel, and a huge Christmas market.
27th November – 20th December
This December, take a walk through a magical wonderland of trees on the Enchanted Christmas Illuminated Trail at Westonbirt Arboretum. Along the 45-minute illuminated trail, you’ll discover a exciting array of beautiful light displays scattered amongst the trees, and find plenty of wintery magic to get involved with along the way…
This December, step into ‘Heligan by Night’ and experience the art of illumination as internationally renowned light artist Ulf Pedersen reveals the night time magic of Heligan’s historic plantings.
10th November – 4th January
Southbank Centre Winter festival returns for 2017 and along with its array of festive shows and performances they will celebrating the coldest season with a fistful of pop-ups and activities
15th November – 14th January
Somerset House’s grand 18th-century courtyard is the stunning setting for an ice rink again this winter. Festive fun for all ages despite skating ability! Treat yourself at Fortnum’s Lodge with one of our Skate Extras – all designed for two to share – or watch the action rink-side from the Skate Lounge. The West Wing will once again transform into Fortnum’s Christmas Arcade.
2nd December – 24th December
Santa’s visiting the little ones and animals at Battersea Park Zoo this December. Children are invited to share their Christmas wish list and in return will receive a mini goody bag and present from Santa himself.
2nd December – 3rd December
Join Santa and his husky helpers this winter for husky rides and a visit to Santa’s grotto where they will receive a goody bag before being able to hop over to the meadow where donkeys are stationed and available for short rides.
16th November – 2nd January
Gloucester Quays annual Victorian Christmas Market and Enchanted Christmas Market brings delicious food and drink stands, festive gifts and hand-crafted items all to the backdrop of Christmas carols, brass bands, an open air ice rink and street entertainment.
24th November – 1st January
Following a spectacular first event, Blenheims Formal Gardens will light up once again for an unforgettable after-dark festive trail of lights.
Explore Mistletoe Moment and the Tunnel of Light adorned with thousands of twinkling fairy lights. Walk beneath glowing lanterns and larger-than-life snowflakes and baubles, all set against the backdrop of glittering ancient woodland drenched in Christmas hues.
25th November – 22nd December (selected dates)
A special interactive show where everyone’s invited to join in. Learn the A-Z of being a Christmas elf, special handshakes and all. Guaranteed to get the grumpiest of Scrooge’s leaving with a smile on their face!
25th November – 24th December (selected dates)
Every year Father Christmas and his elves set up camp at The Eden project, from late November right up until Christmas Eve. There are letters to sort, presents to deliver, and a very important sleigh to prepare. Father Christmas is keen to meet you and your children, so they can help.
Inside the cosy tent you’ll get to see ‘behind the scenes’, including the elves’ bunkbeds, the pigeonholes full of children’s letters, and all the stockings laid out ready for the big day.
11th November – 7th January (selected dates)
Join our friends at Chatsworth this festive season as they celebrate some of Charles Dickens’ best loved works. Discover the splendour and squalor of Dickensian London, with Victorian shop fronts, the London Docks, Scrooge’s bed and much, much more all dressed for Christmas. Fagin, Bill Sikes and Miss Havisham will help bring the theme to life delighting all ages.
18th November – 24th December
Discover the amazing seasonal sights, sounds, smells and delicious tastes of Christmas past. Experience the magic of a traditional Christmas as you join in the celebrations and join the celebrations at 1820s Pockerley Old Hall, 1900s Town, 1900s Pit Village and 1940s Farm.
11th November – 23rd December
With Christmas just around the corner, it’s time to start sending your letters to Father Christmas. Come to the Stables to write your letter and Christmas list, pop it in the letterbox and we’ll make sure it gets delivered to him.
9th November – 9th January
Cardiff’s Iconic Winter Wonderland returns on Thursday 9 November 2017 – Sunday 7 January 2018 with the undercover Admiral ice rink, authentic bierkeller, alpine village and funfair
Families will enjoy the magical tram ride to Santa’s home at the North Pole in one of the specially decorated single deck tramcars, enjoy a cup of hot chocolate, a delicious treat, speak to Santa and admire the awesome lights whilst you walk around the North Pole.
